THE SECRET TO GAINING HIGH LEVEL SKILL IN TAIJIQUAN
There is no secret to cultivating a high level of skill in taijiquan. There is just hard work - very hard work - over a long period of time! When you realize this, and accept this, and DO this, you are sure to succeed in developing a high level of understanding and skill. Even when the community where you live does not have a highly skilled teacher, it doesn't matter. Because when you exhaust that teacher's knowledge, you will look for and you will find another teacher. And you may continue this for years... and then you WILL acquire the high level skill. Never give up. Practice sincerely every day. Always give your best effort. Always search for the truth in your heart. Learn to distinguish between what is worth learning and what must be discarded.; what is real and what is unreal. If a technique doesn't work for self defense, research why, and correct it. If you feel pain in some part of your body from practice, meditate on what it is you are doing incorrectly, because when practiced properly, taijiquan is a healing system. It should not cause pain and discomfort, or degeneration of joints. Always strive to manifest taiji principles during practice, and don't fall into the rut of merely dancing through the movements - always keep the form fresh through repeated practice. When practicing form, visualize as many different applications for self defense that you can. When practicing tuishou, focus internally to correct deficiencies in your alignment/posture. Avoid using stiff force to control others. Use fangsong and chansijin, and focus on maintaining your own internal balance. The key to understanding in taijiquan. Tihui. It means "to understand from your own direct experience". This is the "secret". This will only come from your own consistent efforts and regular practice! |
